Our beginner Mahjong class is designed to help complete beginners understand the game clearly and confidently in one session. In 2.5 hours, students learn how Mahjong works, how tiles are organized, how a hand is built, and how to begin making decisions during real gameplay.

The goal is to help you understand the structure of the game, recognize basic patterns, and feel comfortable enough to continue playing after class.

Standard Class Fee: $80 per student

Early Registration — $70

Early registration pricing of $70 per participant is available for select class dates when registration is completed at least 10 days in advance before the class.

Classes are intentionally designed to create an interactive and personalized learning experience.

Continue Learning After Class

Mahjong becomes much easier with repetition, guided practice, and continued exposure to real hands.

After class, students receive two weeks of Student Access to Mahjong Academy, including access to the first two learning modules for continued beginner reinforcement.

This helps students review core concepts, practice at their own pace, and continue building confidence after the in-person class.

Learning Mahjong is easier when you have people to continue playing with.

When registering for a class or Mahjong gathering, participants are automatically added to the Central Valley Mahjong Players Network so they can receive updates about future classes, gatherings, and beginner-friendly play opportunities nearby. Participants may opt out at any time.

To help connect local players more effectively, participants are encouraged to complete their city and state information when setting up their profile.

How long are the Mahjong classes?

Most beginner Mahjong classes and gatherings are approximately 2.5 hours long. This allows enough time for instruction, tile recognition, guided gameplay, and hands-on practice.

How much does the class cost?

The standard class fee is $80 per student. Limited-time early registration pricing of $72 may be available for select class dates and for registrations completed within 48 hours of initial inquiry. Pricing for private Mahjong gatherings and group events may vary depending on group size, format, and location.

Do you provide Mahjong sets and materials?

Yes. Mahjong Academy provides Mahjong sets for class use, printed learning materials, and guided instruction during the class or gathering.

When do I pay for the class?

For standard Mahjong classes, a refundable $30 deposit is collected in advance to reserve your spot. The deposit is fully refundable if you cancel at least 3 days before the class date.
Once your class date, time, and location are confirmed, the remaining balance is collected in person before the class begins.

Can I request a different class date or time?

Yes. We are happy to accommodate different schedules whenever possible depending on instructor availability, group size, and location.
