Choose the Right Way to Learn Mahjong

Mahjong Academy offers beginner-friendly learning experiences designed around your location, group size, schedule, and preferred learning style.

In the San Francisco Bay Area, available class formats vary by location and group size. You can choose from introductory sessions, complete workshops, and multi-class learning series at select locations.

In the Central Valley, we currently offer our signature Complete Workshop.

1. Quick Intro — 1 Hour

Bay Area · Select Private Groups

A relaxed, low-commitment introduction to Mahjong for groups looking for a fun first experience. This one-hour session introduces the tiles, basic rules, and flow of the game through guided, hands-on play.

Availability depends on group size and location.

2. Complete Workshop — 2 Hours

Bay Area & Central Valley

Our signature beginner workshop and the most complete way to build a strong Mahjong foundation in a single session.

Through guided instruction, hands-on practice, and gameplay, you’ll learn the fundamentals and leave ready to continue playing with confidence.

After the workshop, you’ll receive access to our Class Recap, where you can review key concepts and reinforce what you’ve learned at your own pace.

3. Multi-Class Series

Bay Area · Select Locations

For students who prefer to learn over multiple sessions, our multi-class series breaks the beginner curriculum into shorter, progressive lessons with time to practice between classes.

Series length and class duration may vary by location and program, including 3-class, 6-class, and other multi-week formats.

Each session builds on the previous one through guided instruction and hands-on play, helping you develop a stronger understanding of both Mahjong fundamentals and strategy.

Online Mahjong Classes & Lessons — Learn from Anywhere

Can’t attend in person? Learn from home with structured online learning and guided mahjong instruction.

Our online program teaches the same core foundations as our in-person classes — tile recognition, hand structure, discard logic, and strategic thinking — through a calm, step-by-step learning experience.

Instead of memorizing rules, you’ll learn how to see the game: recognizing strong shapes, avoiding common traps, and making clearer decisions as the hand develops.
