Welcome to the official City of Mountain View Mahjong classes. Mahjong Academy is proud to partner with the City of Mountain View Recreation Division to offer beginner-friendly Mahjong courses for adults at the Mountain View Community Center.
About the Class
Learn the basics of Mahjong in a relaxed, beginner-friendly class designed for adults with no prior experience. Participants are introduced to the tiles, rules, and core gameplay concepts through guided instruction and hands-on practice.
The class emphasizes understanding over memorization or pressure. It supports strategic thinking, focus, and social connection through engaging play. No prior experience is required.
Session Dates & Times
Four sessions are offered across September and October. Each series meets weekly at the Mountain View Community Center, Maple Room.

Registration for Mahjong for Beginners is managed entirely by the City of Mountain View Recreation Division. Use the course number for the session you want when registering.
Residents of Mountain View receive the resident rate. Non-resident registration is also available at the listed rate.

Do I need prior Mahjong experience?
No. Mahjong for Beginners is designed for adults who are completely new to the game. No prior experience is required.
Where are classes held?
All sessions are held at the Mountain View Community Center in the Maple Room.
Who can register?
The class is open to adults ages 18 and over. Both Mountain View residents and non-residents may register, at their respective rates.
When do classes meet?
Tuesday sessions meet from 5:30 to 6:30 PM, and Wednesday sessions meet from 3:30 to 4:30 PM. See the session table above for specific dates.
Is there a week with no class?
Yes. The Wednesday series running September 9 through September 30 does not meet on September 16.
Are Mahjong sets provided?
Yes. Mahjong Academy provides Mahjong sets, instructional materials, and reference guides. No equipment purchase is required.
What does the class fee include?
Your registration includes in-person Mahjong instruction, Mahjong sets for class use, guided gameplay, printed learning materials, post-class support by email or text, complimentary Student Access to Module 1 of Mahjong Academy, and 30 days of unlimited AI training with our AI Coaches.
