Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL QUESTIONS

Q: I’m a total beginner. Can I join?

Absolutely. Our Beginner classes assume zero experience. We’ll cover tiles, setup, turns, and basic strategy—then you’ll play real hands by the end.

Q: How do I book?

Go to the Classes page in the header on the top of the page. We process tickets via Eventbrite and email your confirmation instantly.

Q: Which rules do you teach?

We offer Chinese Mahjong primarily. Once you have learned how to play Chinese Mahjong, you can easily learn rules quickly. Start with Chinese—it’s the common one in the U.S.

REFUND

Q: What’s your refund/reschedule policy?

  • Full refund/cancel: up to 72 hours before your class.

  • Reschedule once (free): up to 24–72 hours before class, subject to availability.

  • Less than 24 hours: tickets are non-refundable, but transferable—you may send a friend in your place.
If we ever cancel, you’ll receive a full refund or free transfer.

MISC

Q: Do you sell mahjong sets?

Yes. Check out our Products page.

Q: Will I get a cheat sheet?

Yes—each class includes a printable beginner cheat sheet (and a link to download more resources).

Q: What if I have questions not covered here?

Contact us here—we’re happy to help!

CLASSES

Q: How long is a class?

Most classes are 2.5–3 hours. Workshops and events range from 90 minutes to 3 hours—check the specific event page.

Q: Where are classes held?

We hold our classes in two locations - either in San Jose and surrounding cities, or in Riverbank/Modesto at a place of your choice. The exact address and parking details will be discussed with you and finalized.

Q: Do I need to bring anything?

Just yourself. We provide tiles and cheat sheets. If you have a set you love, feel free to bring it.

Q: What’s the class size and pace?

We keep tables small—4 players per table—with an instructor floating (about 1 instructor per 2–3 tables). We move at a beginner-friendly pace.

Q: Are there age limits?

Recommended ages 12+ with a paying adult; 16+ may attend solo. For younger learners or special groups, contact us.

Q: Do you offer private lessons or team events?

Yes! We host private lessons, small-group sessions, corporate team events and classes for schools and local communities. Feel free to contact us for more information.

Q: Is this gambling?

No. Our classes and events are educational/social. We do not play for money.

Q: Can I learn online?

We occasionally run live online sessions and publish tutorials. Join the newsletter on our homepage to be notified.
